In a story with numerous realistic story lines for its imaginative main character Hazel, such as maintaining a friendship, bullies, dealing with a friend's depressed mother, fitting in at a new school, and handling her own father's leaving, the most interesting story line to emerge is fantasy based. 

At about the midpoint of the book, Hazel's best friend Jack falls under an enchantment that draws him into the woods and into the arms of the Snow Queen.  Knowing she is the only one who can save him, Hazel enters the woods and discovers a world of evil and potions and wolves were nothing makes sense.  Can Hazel save Jack from the Snow Queen?  Can she even make it out of the woods herself?  You'll need to read Breadcrumbs to find out.
