Holes

Holes
by Louis Sachar

The mild mannered and always positive Stanley Yelnats has been sentenced to spend 18 months at Camp Green Lakes, a juvenile detention center located in a dry flat stretch of Texas.  Stanley, and his fellow detainees, are each required to dig a five foot deep hole daily, all while worrying about rattlesnakes and scorpions and dealing with a complete lack of shade.

Stanley's situation raises some interesting questions.

How will Stanley fit in with his fellow detainees?

How will Stanley manage digging a hole everyday in the hot sun?

But most of all, why are Stanley and his fellow diggers digging holes in the middle of nowhere?

Read the wonderful Hole to find out the answers.
